Poem: Surprised

Old goal:
Don’t be surprised
When that sucker
Throws a sucker punch

But out of nowhere
Surprise
Blammo
I’d get hit upside the heart
A sucker punch

Not surprised
That the punch was thrown as much as
Surprised that I’d forgotten
That this happens
Sometimes
Over time
Lots of times

So I was surprised
That I was surprised

New goal:
Don’t get mad
About being surprised about being surprised again.
Be surprised or not
Dance and do my best
Let the suckers try to beat be up
Rather than me beating them to it
